The United Nations declared 12 August as International Youth Day in 1999. The proposal was given at the World Youth Ministers Conference, which was held in Lisbon on 17 December 1999. It was first celebrated on 12 August 2000 and since then this day has become an important occasion to bring the possibilities and contributions of youth to the general public.
In 1965, the United Nations began work to inspire and educate young people. In this direction, they accepted declarations to promote peace, respect for others, and intercultural understanding.
Every year International Youth Day focuses on a particular theme that highlights various aspects of empowering and upbringing youth.
The theme for 2024 is “From Clicks to Progress: Youth Digital Paths for Sustainable Development”.
On this day (International Youth Day), there are various activities for youth everywhere. The aim of which is to promote the UN agenda of sustainable development. Apart from this, emphasis is laid on creating a better future by involving youth in discussions and decision-making on all kinds of issues.
