New Delhi, March 11 (IANS) Edtech company Unacademy CEO Gaurav Munjal has suggested a solution to tackle the acute water shortage in Bengaluru ahead of the summer season. He recommended quick-commerce platform Blinkit to start an on-demand, under 10-minute water tanker service for the city, which has been facing a depletion of groundwater due to a shortage of rainfall.
The city’s water scarcity has led to many bore wells drying up, forcing residents to seek alternative sources. Tech professionals have even started leaving the city temporarily in light of the crisis. The Bengaluru Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has imposed restrictions on water usage, including washing vehicles and gardening, and introduced fines for violations.
With a population of 1.40 crore, Bengaluru requires approximately 1,450 million litres per day (MLD) of water from the Cauvery river and an additional 700 MLD from groundwater sources. The situation has prompted the BWSSB to mandate obtaining permission before drilling bore wells to regulate water extraction and preserve resources.
Gaurav Munjal’s recommendation for Blinkit to launch a prompt water tanker service aims to address the urgent need for water in Bengaluru amid the worsening crisis. This initiative could alleviate the strain on existing water sources and provide residents with a quick and convenient solution to their water needs.
