Kisan Diwas is celebrated on 23 December every year. It marks the birth anniversary of ex-Prime Minister Chaudhary Charan Singh. He was the 5th Prime Minister of India and was known for his significant contribution towards the betterment of farmers across the nation.
He was known as the leader of farmers and went on to introduce many policies to improve the lives of farmers in the country. He was born in 1902 in Noorpur to a Jaat family.
Farmers are often regarded as the backbone of India. Kisan Diwas is celebrated with full enthusiasm in the country in remembrance of Chaudhary Charan Singh, the ex-Prime Minister. Although he was the Prime Minister of the country but lived a simple plain life and made many changes in every farmer’s life with his policies.
Throughout his life, he brought many changes to the Indian agriculture scenario With the help of his policies and bills he reformed the entire agriculture sector of the country. Because of his family background, he got a lot of support from the farmers as he knew the challenges and struggles they faced in their lives.
Many don’t know that he played a major role in making and executing the renowned Zamindari Abolition Act. Because of his strong personality and stand on the land, many farmers stood together and fought against moneylenders and landlords. Apart from this, he was an author and often wrote about farmers and their issues while giving solutions to them. He passed away on 29 May 1987.
The day is observed in many ways, agricultural concerts and events are organised, and people pay their respect to Chaudhry Charan Singh. Because of his policies and reforms, the situation of Indian farmers was improved.
